The OYBike system has been designed to work in conjunction with other modes of transport, to get around the problem of transporting bikes on buses and tubes etc. Below are 2 scenarios where the OYBike system could be used to cut journey time and the cost of transport:
Journey 1
Bob lives in Queensway and works in Brook Green. He would normally get the Central line tube to Shepherds Bush, and then either get a bus or walk through Shepherds Bush Green, and along the Shepherds Bush Road for the remainder of his journey. OYBike could make his journey easier. Instead of having to wait for a bus, or take the time to walk he could rent an OYBike from outside of Shepherds Bush Central line tube station and cycle the 5 minutes to the office, leaving the OYBike at an empty docking station just outside the office in Brook Green.
Costing for one way travel:
Cost of Journey via Bus: £0.70
Cost of journey via OYBike: FREE!(as journey time is between 0 and 15 minutes)
Estimated time of journey via OYBike: 5 minutes
Estimated time of journey via bus: 20 minutes (including waiting time)
Journey 2
Bob likes to keep fit and so tries to go to the pool on Lillie Road in Fulham at least twice a week at lunchtime. He would normally travel from his office in Brook Green to the pool either by bus or walking. By registering with OYBike he could cycle to and from the pool, thus cutting the journey time and cost of the transport.
Costing for lunchtime trip:
Cost of Journey via Bus: £1.40 (£0.70 x 2)
Cost of journey via OYBike: FREE!
Estimated time of journey via OYBike: 16 minutes (8 mins each way)
Estimated time of journey via bus: 40 minutes (including waiting time – 20 mins each way)
N.B. All journey times are approximate, and actual times will depend upon the fitness of the rider.
